Friday nights used to feel like the end of a to-do list. Now they feel like the beginning of peace.

As a chaplain-in-training, I’m learning that rest isn’t something to earn — it’s something to receive.

Tonight, I’m lighting a candle, opening my journal, and just being with God. No pressure. No performance. Just presence.

If you’ve poured yourself out this week — for others, for your family, for your healing — you’re not empty. You’re being refilled. Quietly. Gently.

Incorporating rituals such as journaling or meditative music can enhance this experience, making our downtime not just restful but meaningful. Various studies affirm the psychological benefits of quiet reflection, supporting claims that solitude fosters creativity and emotional resilience. Moreover, faith practices around the world emphasize the significance of rest as a divine gift, reinforcing the notion that to be still is to be connected to something greater than ourselves. As Isaiah 30:15 encapsulates, “In quietness and trust is your strength.” These evenings of sacred stillness not only reinforce our spiritual connection but allow us to focus on healing and gratitude, providing a potent remedy for the stresses of life.
