In the middle of chaplaincy training, I’ve learned that caring for others begins with listening—to God, to your own heart, and to the stillness in between. If today feels heavy or uncertain, let this moment be enough. You’re not behind. You’re being led. 💛

That's when I realized I desperately needed to carve out a 'peaceful midday pause' for myself, not just as a luxury, but as a necessity for my well-being and, honestly, my sanity. It started with the simple idea of just *stopping*. Not checking my phone, not grabbing another coffee, but truly pausing. What I discovered is that this isn't just about physical rest; it's about giving your mind and spirit a much-needed reset. I found that even five to ten minutes can make a profound difference. One of my favorite ways to do this is to step away from my desk – even if it's just to a different chair by a window. I love to take three deep, slow breaths, focusing entirely on the sensation of air filling my lungs and then slowly releasing. It's a simple act, but it instantly grounds me. Sometimes, I’ll close my eyes and just listen to the ambient sounds around me, noticing them without judgment. This isn't about clearing my mind completely, which can feel impossible sometimes, but rather about gently redirecting my focus away from the day's stressors. Another practice I've found incredibly helpful is to intentionally bring a sense of gratitude into my midday pause. I'll quickly think of three things I'm thankful for in that very moment – it could be the warmth of the sun, a kind word from a colleague, or even just the quiet hum of the air conditioning. This subtle shift in perspective helps combat any feelings of overwhelm or negativity that might have crept in. And for those days when my mind feels particularly cluttered, I sometimes turn to a short meditation or a calming piece of music, much like the song suggestion in the main post. Music has a magical way of transporting you to a more peaceful state. I've even started keeping a small journal where I jot down a single thought or feeling during my pause, just to acknowledge what's present for me. I know what you might be thinking: 'I don't have time for this!' I hear you. But I promise, once you start experiencing the benefits – increased clarity, reduced stress, and a renewed sense of purpose for the remainder of your day – you'll find yourself making time. It’s not about adding another item to your to-do list; it’s about creating a sacred space in the middle of your day where you can reconnect with yourself and, for me, with a deeper spiritual peace. Try it tomorrow. Even five minutes. You might be surprised by how much lighter you feel.
