How I set my Bible up
Hi, I recently got a new Bible and wanted to share how I set it up. If you’re anything like me, I get overwhelmed and overstimulated very easy, especially when reading. When I started my journey I couldn’t read the Bible because I could never understand what I was reading. I did some research and decided to break down all the books into sections.
I then took those sections and put a description about the books and what you’re going to be reading in them. Each book is different and each one has a purpose and knowing them, helped me understand more about what was being portrayed in them and the time period. I then highlighted them to make them a little more clear and just to have fun with it. You can make it your own!
I think this is important and may help others as well. When I first started, I started in John (my favorite book and the one I recommend people to start with) as I was reading though, I wanted to take a break and I needed some encouragement but I didn’t want to get lost in the story line. So knowing the difference in books helps because I went straight to Psalms. There are books in the Bible that are solely poetry, wise sayings and worship essentially, so you won’t get confused or lost. I then went back and finished John and started reading more and more.
Ma/Mi are major and minor in regard to the prophets. That’s just indication of length and how long they were speaking and sending messages. It’s not too important when first reading the Bible but I still added them to know. Also if you’re just starting out, please don’t get too overwhelmed with genealogy, I promise you God doesn’t need you to memorize all the different names, He just wants to spend time with you!
For me, I couldn’t read the Bible front to back and personally I don’t think it should be read that way. If you can and it works, then that’s great! I just can’t do it. I have a study guide that I started out with if you want that then please let me know!
