... Read moreOkay, so you saw my post about the incredible Hello Kitty and anime haul from my recent Chinatown trip, but I wanted to spill a bit more about the full experience! Chinatown isn't just about finding amazing stores like Asia Crafts; it's a whole adventure in itself. First off, just walking through the vibrant streets is an experience. The atmosphere is buzzing, with traditional archways, colorful storefronts, and the delicious aroma of authentic food wafting from every corner. Even if you're not specifically looking for something, you'll find so much to take in just by observing. I always recommend going on a weekday morning if you prefer a slightly less crowded vibe, but weekends have an undeniable energy that's also fantastic. Beyond the souvenir shops, Chinatown is famous for its incredible food scene. I always make sure to grab some dim sum or try a new bubble tea spot. It’s a great way to refuel between exploring! Don't be afraid to wander off the main drag a bit; sometimes the best hidden gems are found on the side streets. Now, back to the shopping! Finding that particular store, Asia Crafts, was definitely a highlight. It wasn't just Hello Kitty, they had so much more! From adorable Sanrio character stationery like pens, notebooks, and pouches, to an insane collection of anime figures and keychains – I even spotted some cool Naruto items! For any collector, it’s paradise. And let's not forget the endless shelves of Hello Kitty plushies, some even in cute zodiac outfits. It felt like every corner held a new treasure. Oh, and speaking of fun, keep an eye out for places with claw machines, like the 'Kiddleton' I mentioned earlier. It’s such a nostalgic and fun way to try and win some extra plushies or prizes! Even if you don't win, it adds to the lively, playful spirit of the area. My best advice for anyone planning a trip to Chinatown, whether it's in NYC, Seattle, or anywhere else, is to go with an open mind and comfortable shoes! There's so much to discover, from unique shops selling all sorts of merchandise to delicious eateries and cultural sights. It's truly a place where you can spend hours just exploring and finding little pieces of joy, especially if you're into cute anime and Hello Kitty finds like me!
