Your Clinical Judgment Is Enough

Hey girl, come sit with me because we need to talk about something almost every therapist struggles with but rarely admits… trusting our own clinical judgment.

As the shy girl therapist who second-guesses herself in meetings but turns into a full expressive powerhouse once I’m in session, trust me — I know what it feels like to wonder if you’re “doing it right.” We care so much about getting things right that sometimes we forget… we actually know what we’re doing.

Your clinical judgment is built from your intuition, your experience, your wisdom, your empathy, your education, and your lived story. That combination? Nobody else has it. Nobody.

And girl… the way we will overthink one tiny intervention like we’re about to be graded on it?? Meanwhile the client is out here growing and thriving because you showed up exactly how they needed you.

You don’t need someone to validate every move.

You don’t need to apologize for using your instincts.

You don’t need to wait for permission to trust what you already know.

You are in the room for a reason.

Your voice is in the treatment plan for a reason.

Your perspective matters for a reason.

If you’re nodding right now, I’m nodding with you — quietly, shyly, but with that big-session energy that always comes out when I’m speaking truth.

You’re already enough. Your judgment is enough.

Signed,

Dee Bloomingmoore 🌺

... Read moreHey girl, I just want to share a little more about why trusting your clinical judgment is so essential in therapy. As therapists, we often face this inner critic that tells us our decisions may not be enough or even right. But the truth is, your clinical judgment is this powerful blend of everything that makes you, you — your intuition, education, life experiences, and empathy all rolled into one. Nobody else brings that exact combination to the table. I totally get the pressure to seek approval or validation, especially when you’re working with clients who rely on you to help guide them. But sometimes, we get caught up in overthinking that one intervention or wording, forgetting that the real magic happens when you’re present, authentic, and in the moment with your client. That’s when breakthroughs happen — when trust and connection form naturally. Also, let’s not forget the importance of self-compassion here. It’s okay to second-guess yourself sometimes because it means you care deeply about your work. But remember, caring enough also means trusting your instincts and knowing that your voice deserves to be heard in treatment planning. When you stop waiting for permission to trust yourself and your clinical judgment, you’ll notice your confidence grows, and so does your impact on clients’ growth journeys. Your lived story shapes how you understand and relate to others, which enriches every session you hold. So next time you catch yourself doubting, remind yourself why you’re in the room — because you are exactly what your client needs. So, hang in there, and when the shy, quiet side of you doubts your power, let that inner powerhouse step up, speak your truth, and celebrate the unique therapist you already are. You’re more than enough, and your judgment is a gift to your clients and the profession.

What’s one moment when you doubted yourself… but later realized your clinical judgment was spot on?

Do you ever second-guess an intervention even when your client literally responds well to it? 😂✨
