Therapy Is Heart Work Inside a System
Let’s start with the part that confuses people.
Therapy is meaningful. It is sacred. It does require empathy, attunement, and emotional presence.
And it also lives inside systems that do not run on feelings.
There are policies. Productivity expectations. Funding streams. Documentation rules. Liability concerns. Audits. Time limits.
Caseload caps that don’t feel humane.
If you were taught that caring deeply means ignoring how the system works, you were set up.
Understanding the business side is not selling out.
It’s how you keep your nervous system intact while doing emotionally heavy work.
Compassion without structure leads to burnout.
Structure without compassion leads to harm.
Your job is to learn how to hold both.
