Why Rest Triggers Guilt in High-Functioning Women
From a therapeutic perspective, guilt around rest is rarely about laziness. It’s often about survival. Many of us learned early that productivity kept us safe emotionally, financially, relationally. Rest feels risky when your nervous system associates worth with output.
From an Adlerian lens, behavior always serves a purpose. Overworking once protected you. But protection can quietly become a prison when the season changes.
God does not ask us to earn rest. He models it. Even Jesus withdrew not because He was weak, but because He was wise.
Rest isn’t quitting. It’s recalibrating.
What belief about your worth gets activated when you stop producing?
