Sometimes Silence Is Self-Protection
Sometimes people go quiet…
not because they don’t care,
but because they’re carrying more
than they know how to explain.
Not everything is easy to put into words.
Some feelings are layered.
Some experiences are still being processed.
Some things don’t make sense even to the person holding them.
So instead of explaining it wrong…
or being misunderstood…
or having to revisit something heavy…
they choose silence.
And from the outside,
that silence can feel confusing.
You might take it personally.
You might feel shut out.
You might wonder what changed.
But sometimes, nothing changed
they’re just overwhelmed.
And in those moments,
silence isn’t rejection.
It’s capacity.
It’s someone trying to hold themselves together
without having to break everything open
before they’re ready.
So if you’re the one who’s gone quiet
give yourself grace.
And if you’re on the receiving end of it
lead with compassion before assumption.
Because not everything unspoken
is meant to hurt you.
Some things are just… heavy.
