As a Therapist, I've Learned That Inner Beauty Starts Within
There was a time when I thought beauty was mostly about how you looked. Hair done, outfit together, skin acting right, and pretending water could fix everything.
But as I have gotten older, healed, and grown in my faith, I have learned that beauty is also about what is happening on the inside. It is your peace. Your character. Your self-awareness. Your ability to pause before reacting.
As a therapist, I go and go all day. I am holding space, listening, documenting, thinking, supporting, and by the time I look up, I am tired and still need to figure out how to get some real food in my body.
So for me, wellness has to be realistic. Sometimes it is not a full meal prep moment. Sometimes it is me at work with a yogurt cup, trying to make a better choice instead of surviving off vibes and snacks from the bottom of my bag.
One easy snack I have been loving is a Greek Yogurt Wellness Bowl. I use one container of Oikos Pro vanilla yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, a little granola, honey, and chia seeds for extra fiber.
It is simple, high-protein, and quick. And honestly, growing up I knew health mattered, but knowing something and actually doing it consistently are two different testimonies.
I am learning that inner beauty is not perfection. It is choosing, day after day, to become more compassionate, self-aware, healthy, honest, and whole.
What is one simple way you are taking care of yourself this week?
From my experience as a therapist, I've found that nurturing inner beauty involves a combination of mental, emotional, and physical wellness. While many of us recognize the importance of health, actually maintaining consistent habits can be challenging—especially during busy days packed with responsibilities. That's why realistic approaches, such as quick nutritious snacks, play a big role in self-care routines. One snack I frequently turn to is the Greek Yogurt Wellness Bowl. Using Oikos Pro vanilla yogurt as a base not only satisfies my hunger but also provides a significant protein punch that fuels my energy and focus for hours. Adding fresh strawberries and blueberries contributes antioxidants and natural vitamins, while granola offers crunch and a source of sustained energy. A drizzle of honey brings natural sweetness without refined sugars, and chia seeds add fiber, helping digestion and promoting fullness. What this snack exemplifies is an easy, realistic step toward better nutrition when long meal prep isn't an option. This simplicity extends to the broader philosophy of inner beauty—it’s not about perfection or complicated routines but about daily conscious choices. Being self-aware enough to pause before reacting, embracing compassion for yourself and others, and choosing to grow holistically create a peace and confidence that radiate outward. Moreover, what we eat directly impacts our mood, energy levels, and cognitive clarity, which in turn shapes our interactions and emotional health. When I prioritize nourishing my body, I notice a stronger ability to be present for my clients and loved ones. Even small habits, like opting for a wholesome snack amid a hectic day, reaffirm my commitment to wellness from the inside out. I encourage everyone to identify small, practical ways to care for themselves each week. Whether it’s mindful eating, pausing for reflection, or simply practicing kindness with yourself, these choices collectively build that inner beauty that truly shines beyond skin deep.
