Rating snacks I got from Batam 😋😋😋

other than instant noodles, here are some snacks you can consider buying home 😋 and which to avoid 🫠!!

1️⃣ oatside cereal bar 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

MUST MUST MUST BUY if ur in batam cause its SGD2.70 on shopee vs SGD0.40 (RP5K) if u buy it there!

was surprised to see this familiar brand on the shelf in JC Supermarket . they have 3 flavours listed on the website but only 2 were on sale in the supermarket.

got 1 choco & pb to try for fun and wow SUPER CRUNCHY?! much regrets as i tried it after coming back to sg 😢 would have got a few boxes to slowly snack on or share

2️⃣ pocky crushed fruit 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

also another MUST BUY if ur in batam cause its SGD2.10 on shopee/cold storage vs SGD0.90 (RP11K) if u buy it there

grabbed it off the shelf in JC Supermarket cause the yogurt flavor enticed me

got 1 blueberry yogurt 🫐 and strawberry peach yogurt 🍓🍑 to try for fun and i LOVE how fruity they are. personally prefer the strawberry peach one as you can really taste the crushed strawberry & peach bits on it SOO GOOD this snack is perfect for kids also!!

3️⃣ oishi nachos 🖤🖤🖤

tried the cheese version in sg and taste nubbad leh. saw it was selling for SGD2.05 in value$ vs SGD0.75 (RP9.5K) if u buy it there! i do see the cheese flavour in top100 but ghost pepper flavour only at JC Supermarket

i was amused to see that they have 2 other flavors - traditional one and rasa cabe pedas (ghost pepper)

the ghost pepper version will make your booty have a burning sensation when u 💩 i wouldn’t finish even a quarter of the bag before my lips BURNED. perfect for spice lovers!! 🌶️🥵

4️⃣ wonhae topokki / potato snack ❌

SGD3.82 on shopee vs SGD0.60(RP8K)

got the topokki in sweet spicy & creamy rose flavour and potato snack in spicy flavour to try but both were pretty mid. topokki was crunchy but very artificial flavour while potato snack was damn soft i almost thought lao hong 🫠 the gochujang sauce that is meant to pour in and shake to coat the potato snack has also hardened by the time i try it so BOOO but it does taste pretty spicy 🌶️

saw a local buying and decided to try it DISAPPOINTING so perhaps this is what the locals liked?

5️⃣ mujigae topokki ❌

got it at SGD1.40(RP17.5K) and no it is so hard do not buy it 😢

Batam
4/6 Edited to

... Read moreBatam offers a unique variety of local snacks that are worth exploring beyond the typical tourist buys. Many travelers overlook the nuances of the snacks here, so I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what really makes these treats special as souvenirs or just for your own enjoyment. For instance, 'snack khas Batam' often includes local specialties influenced by Indonesian flavors and regional tastes. One interesting aspect is how some snacks like the ghost pepper flavored Oishi nachos bring an intense spicy kick that surprises many first-timers—perfect for spice lovers seeking authentic heat. Additionally, snacks such as the Pocky crushed fruit variants are popular with both kids and adults because of their natural fruity chunks, which are unusual compared to the typical plain coatings found elsewhere. This makes them a nice gift or personal treat to savor. Many locals love the crispy, fresh textures of snacks like the Oatside cereal bars, which are made with whole grains and deliver a satisfying crunch that's hard to find in Singapore at such affordable prices. Buying these in Batam allows you to enjoy them for much less, making it highly recommended. On the flip side, some snacks like the Wonhae topokki and Mujigae topokki didn’t impress due to their artificial flavors or texture issues after shipping back home. This highlights the importance of considering freshness and packaging when buying snacks to bring back. Finally, exploring Batam's supermarkets such as JC Supermarket allows you to see a wide range of snack options and often find the best prices. If you’re looking for authentic Batam snacks and other local delicacies, it's a top destination to shop smart and taste well. Next time you’re in Batam, consider giving these snacks a try and see which ones suit your taste. Happy snacking and safe travels!

Forget La Moist, get this instead! 🧁
Tried 小小心意 kueh lapis recently and honestly it’s such a hidden gem compared to the usual La Moist or Diana ones. Their kueh lapis has that perfect balance, moist but not oily, fragrant with the right amount of spice and not overly sweet so you won’t feel jelak after a few slices. Each layer is b
