I was scrolling thru lemon8 and wanted to find perm salons and actually I realised I have been to some decent ones like Hart Salon and Nick@58 (redhill)…
My curls last about 1-1.5 years ( my second perm from Nick @58 is still surviving and im maxxing it till cannot max already.
Context: I last permed in Nov 2024 and now is April 2026 already —-> 17 months le (1 year 5 months)
I went on exchange from Jan to April 2025 and then cut my hair in April, Aug 2025 and Jan 2026. And somehow my curls still last (before perming, my curls fall through once i step out of the house cos my hair is really that thin)
Tldr: Heres what I did…
I invested in good curl creams and curlers:
On hair cream, I bought the one Harts Salon was selling and it lasted me a good 2 years. The brand is called M British. Its super lightweight and smells like peaches so yummy! I also use the ouai wave spray for hold and &honey hair oil for moisture
For curler, I really love love stryv auto curler (dk the name but its the one u press button) cos I wont burn my hand and really holds my curls much longer. I also use the dyson but for drying hair and fringe curl
Ok hope u found this useful for perm maxxing!!

From my experience, starting with a reputable salon like Hart Salon or Nick@85 at Redhill can make a huge difference, as their expertise in perming helps create curls that last longer.
One of the biggest challenges with perms is managing thin hair, which tends to lose curls quickly. I found that investing in quality curl-enhancing and moisturizing products was essential. Using a lightweight curl cream like M British—recommended by Hart Salon—helped maintain my curls with a fresh peach scent that’s both pleasant and non-greasy. Additionally, combining this with a wave hold spray such as Ouai and moisturizing oils like &honey kept my hair hydrated without weighing it down, which is key for thin hair.
Tools also play a vital role. Rather than risking burns or inconsistent results with a traditional curler, I prefer an automatic curler that curls hair evenly and safely, such as the one from Stryv. This tool not only saved me time but also helped hold my curls much longer. For drying, a Dyson hair dryer was effective in setting my curls and adding volume without damage, especially useful for styling bangs or fringe sections.
Another factor often overlooked is frequent trims. Even with a layered cut and regular trims (I cut my hair three times within 17 months), maintaining the shape helps keep curls looking fresh and reduces split ends that could weaken curls.
Lastly, environmental changes such as travel or exchanges that expose hair to different climates can affect curl longevity. Throughout my exchange from January to April 2025, my curls endured because of diligent care and product use.
By combining professional perming, quality hair products, the right styling tools, and proper haircuts, anyone can extend the life of their perm significantly. This approach not only maximizes your investment but also lets you enjoy beautiful, bouncy curls well beyond the typical few months.
