Dreamy mermaid adventure in Laguna Beach, CA
bring grippy shoes!
If you want to find the mermaid pools in Laguna Beach , Go to 1000 Steps Beach, go down the stairs, walk left until you see a massive cave, enter the cave, exit the cave on the second opening to the right and you will find the first 2 shallow pools.
After the 2 small pools, climb down the cliffs towards the second beach on the left and cross the small bridge to enter the mermaid pool. 🧜🏼♀️🐚🦀
The cave was far more beautiful to me! Make sure you go during negative tide to fully enjoy the experience.
As always, leave no trace. 🌎

Okay, so you've got the directions to the incredible mermaid pools and that 'DREAMY CAVE' at 1000 Steps Beach in Laguna, but let me tell you, a little extra planning makes all the difference! When I visited, I quickly realized those 'grippy shoes' were non-negotiable. The rocks inside the cave and around the tide pools can be super slick, especially if they're wet. I even saw someone slip, so trust me on this – water shoes or sturdy sandals with good tread are your best friend. Another absolute must-do is checking the tide charts. Seriously, negative tide isn't just a suggestion; it's how you unlock the full magic of this place. I used a simple tide app on my phone and aimed for the lowest tide of the day. Going during high tide means you might not even be able to access the cave or see 'The mermaid pools' properly. Plus, it's safer when the water is receding, giving you more time to explore without worrying about getting cut off. I definitely recommend arriving about an hour before the absolute lowest tide to give yourself ample exploration time. Parking at 1000 Steps Beach can be a bit tricky, especially on weekends. There's street parking along Pacific Coast Highway, but it fills up fast. Be prepared to walk a bit to get to the entrance. And those '1000 Steps'? They're not actually a thousand, but it feels like it on the way back up! It's a good workout, so bring water and be ready for the climb. The views on the way down are stunning though, totally worth it. Once you're down on the beach and have found the 'Thousand Step Beach Sea Cave,' take your time. The cave itself is an experience. It truly earns its 'DREAMY CAVE' moniker, with the light playing off the rock formations. After navigating through to the 'mermaid pools,' you'll find yourself in a different world. These aren't just pretty spots; they're bustling ecosystems. I saw so many colorful anemones, tiny crabs scurrying, and even some small fish trapped in the pools. Remember to be a respectful observer – look, but don't touch or disturb the marine life. Leave everything as you found it, so others can enjoy its natural beauty too. It’s part of keeping Laguna’s precious tide pools pristine. Bringing a small waterproof bag for your phone or camera is also a smart idea, as you might encounter splashes or want to navigate some wet areas. And of course, don't forget the sunscreen and a hat, as you'll be exposed to the sun while exploring the beach. My trip to the 'mermaid pools Laguna Beach' was truly unforgettable, and with these tips, yours will be too!
