The precept gives more than I thought.
The Importance of the Five Precepts. Why Yom Kippur Five?
The fifth precept is the most basic practice in Buddhism, not just the prohibition, but the "shield of life" and the "way to perfect humanity," according to the Buddha's teachings, that is truly for the benefit of oneself and others.
What is the fifth precept?
The canon means normality, determination, the beauty of conduct, consisting of five main verses:
1. Refrain from killing animals - not encroaching on other people's lives
2. Refrain from burglary - do not equate items not given by the owner.
3. Refrain from erotic misconduct - approximately known and responsible for the relationship.
4. Refrain from lying - to speak truthfully, to speak sincerely, to speak usefully.
5.refrain from intoxicants - refrain from things that destroy the intellect and lead to carelessness.
Why Yom Kippur Five?
🔹 1. Protect, secure the present and the future.
- Present: The canon does not make enemies, is not accused, is not careful from his own actions, is calm and stable.
- The future: According to karma, the Keeper of the Holy Sacrament does not have to fall into the abyss (hell, imp, monster, beast), at the very least to be born as a perfect human or to ascend to heaven.
- On the contrary, wrongdoing brings suffering, suffering in this nation, and karma in the next life.
🔹 2. Build a wholesome and prosperous life foundation.
The Buddha said that "precepts are the foundation of all goodness," like a solid house foundation, so that a high building can be built:
- Healing canon 1 → Longevity, health, not easy to get sick
- Keep canon 2 → Wealth, property does not leak, property is honestly obtained.
- Keep canon 3 → Warm family, honorable, wholesome reputation.
- Keep canon 4 → Speech weighs. Be trusted by the common people.
- Keep Precept 5 → Acute intellect, learn things well, not be deceived.
🔹 3. Be a strong mind training machine.
Yom Kippur is not a ban, it is the training of the mind to be restrained. When craving, anger, obsession occurs, we can stop evil thoughts, the mind gradually becomes strong, stable, emotionally unmoved, and is the basis that ultimately leads to concentration and wisdom to escape.
🔹 4. Build a mutually peaceful society.
If everyone can hold the Five Precepts, society will be free from oppression, theft, quarrel, and deceit. Everyone lives together in compassion and trust. The Five Precepts are not personal, but universal rules that make the world a better place.
More understanding 📒
Yom Kippur does not mean to be perfect from the first day. If you make a mistake, do not be discouraged, but to continue to know and intend to improve, because the intention and intention of doing evil is the heart of the precept.
Brief summary
The Fifth is therefore the best life insurance, helping to be safe, happy, famous, healthy, and without being born in a humble place. It is also the first step that leads us to spiritual prosperity until the permanent release of suffering according to Buddhism.
