Taking Tennis Lessons as an Adult

I am a very active girl, but when I moved to Los Angeles, I quickly realized that field hockey (the sport I played in college) is not a thing on the west coast. Unlike on the east coast, there aren’t field hockey adult leagues, camps, or hardly any coaching opportunities so I decided to start a nee sport: Tennis🎾

👟I started taking lessons and so far, it’s been an adjustment but I am really enjoying being active and learning something new

🎾I also like that I have met other adults in the area and they have been really encouraging with me to keep going and stay involved in the sport. That being said, if you’re looking to make friends in your new city, join a sports team or club.

😎Since this is new sport to me, I have been holding back from sharing about it online, mainly because I want to improve my skills before I start talking about different gear, equipment, places to play, etc. So stay tuned to see what else I learn in this (new to me) sport!

Look for local adult groups or leagues, like the Palm Springs Invitational, which often cater to beginners. Make sure to ask about summer programs or weekend workshops to improve your skills. One crucial aspect of adult tennis is balancing competition and enjoyment. While tournaments can be nerve-wracking, participating in local events can enhance your social circle and build friendships through shared interests. Moreover, it’s helpful to invest in the right gear, such as quality tennis shoes and outfits, to enhance your performance and comfort on the court. Seek advice from more experienced players regarding racquets and accessories that suit your level. Finally, keep in mind the importance of practice and patience; improvement takes time. Embrace this new sport and enjoy the community it brings into your life, making friends and memories along the way.
