I've had my amazing Rat Terrier, Lucy, for 15 wonderful years now, and she truly believes she's the queen of our castle! She's a tiny dynamo with a huge personality, proof that even at her age, a Rat Terrier's spirit is something special. Having a senior dog like Lucy has taught me so much about loyalty, resilience, and unconditional love. Her little barks and demanding stares make it abundantly clear who's in charge around here, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Her strong sense of being in charge is just part of her charm. If you're considering a Rat Terrier, or perhaps a Dachshund Rat Terrier mix, understanding their core traits is key. Rat Terriers are typically intelligent, incredibly energetic, and fiercely loyal companions. They bond deeply with their families and can be quite protective. Their 'bossy' nature, as I affectionately call it, often stems from their high intelligence and strong will – they know what they want and they're not afraid to communicate it! This inherent terrier drive means they thrive on interaction and having a 'job' to do, even if that job is just charming their humans. Now, let's look at the Dachshund side. These mixes are generally healthy, but like any breed, they can be prone to certain genetic conditions, so choosing a reputable breeder or rescue is always a good idea.
