Creating an original character (OC) is one of my favorite creative outlets, and I was so thrilled when my twin brother and I decided to collaborate on a Victorian vampire! There's just something so captivating about the Victorian era, with its rich history, intricate fashion, and gothic undertones, that makes it perfect for a creature of the night like a vampire. When we started brainstorming, we knew we wanted a strong female presence. That's how Agnes came to be. We pictured her with striking dark hair and piercing red eyes, giving her that classic, mysterious vampire allure. Her height, around 5'9", also adds to her commanding presence. For her wardrobe, we really dove into Victorian fashion, but with a vampiric twist. We imagined her in an exquisite dark red and purple Victorian-era dress, complete with a beautifully structured corset that emphasizes her silhouette. She often wears long, elegant gloves – partly for style, partly to hide any signs of her eternal existence. Thinking about how a vampire would adapt to or defy Victorian modesty and elegance was a super fun challenge! For anyone looking for vampire OC ideas, I highly recommend starting with a historical era you love. Researching things like social norms, architecture, and prevalent beliefs can spark so many unique character traits and backstories. For Agnes, we thought about what it would be like for a powerful vampire to navigate the strictures of Victorian society. Is she a hidden aristocrat, a whispered legend in the city's underbelly, or perhaps a protector of forgotten secrets? These kinds of questions really flesh out an OC beyond just their appearance. Another tip for designing OCs, especially Victorian ones, is to consider the small details. What kind of accessories would she wear? Does she have a specific mannerism or a unique flaw? We even thought about her 'vampire HOTTY' vibe – how does she exude that confidence and power while still fitting into the era? Maybe she has a subtle, knowing smirk, or a gaze that holds centuries of stories. Working with my twin on this project was fantastic because we could bounce ideas off each other and refine Agnes's concept together. It's amazing how much more detailed and robust a character can become with a fresh perspective.
