A Spider OC from awhile back.

Creating original characters (OCs) is one of my favorite things to do, and I wanted to share a bit about the process behind my latest, and perhaps cutest, spider OC! I've always been fascinated by creatures, and the idea of a spider-like character that's not just spooky but also endearing really sparked my imagination. When I started sketching, I envisioned something unique – not your typical tarantula OC, but something with a touch of whimsy. My goal was to design a 'cute spider OC' that still held those distinctive arachnid features. I began with the basic anatomy of a spider, but then I started to bend the rules. Instead of just eight eyes, I gave her multiple black eyes that felt more expressive. I also added some playful red markings on her grey face. The real fun began when I decided to give her white curly hair! It just instantly softened her look and made her feel more approachable, leaning into that 'furry spider art' vibe. I played around with different body types before settling on a segmented purple and white body, which gave her a distinctive pattern. When it comes to 'spider sketch drawing', I always recommend starting with simple shapes. For this OC, I used circles and ovals for the body segments and head, then gradually added the legs and details. Don't be afraid to experiment! I wanted her to have a bit of a mischievous but sweet personality, so I focused on her red eyes and fangs when doing close-ups. It's funny, in one of my sketches, another character is gently patting her head, saying "Aw~ You're so cute-! you're like a lil' mini-me..." which really captured the kind of affection I hoped she'd evoke. Even though she looks a bit uncomfortable in one frame with closed eyes and fangs, it just adds to her charm! Developing an OC isn't just about the visual design; it’s about giving them a story and personality. I imagined scenarios where she's embraced by others, like the drawing where a character declares, "Nevermind-! you're now my little sister-! You're part of my big'ol family now, baby-!". These little interactions breathe life into the character and make them more relatable, even if they're a spider! If you're looking for 'cool drawings easy' to get into, try taking an animal you find interesting and giving it unexpected human-like traits or expressions. Think about what makes a tarantula intimidating, and then try to flip that on its head to make it cute. For anyone wanting to create their own 'spider OC', my biggest tip is to draw inspiration from everywhere. Look at different species of spiders, but also consider other creatures or even human characteristics. What if your spider OC had an elaborate hairstyle? Or wore tiny accessories? Don't limit yourself to realism. The key is to have fun with the creative process and let your imagination run wild. Whether you're doing a quick 'spider sketch drawing' or a fully rendered piece, the most important thing is to enjoy bringing your unique vision to life.
