... Read moreAs a fellow enthusiast of the tiny wonders around us, I often get asked how I manage to capture such detailed insect images. It’s truly a passion project, and I wanted to share a bit about my journey and some tips for anyone looking to dive into the mesmerizing world of macro photography! First off, patience is key. These little creatures, whether it's a fluffy yellow and black bumblebee diligently working on a coneflower or a shy brown and tan grasshopper resting on green leaves, aren't always cooperative models. I’ve spent countless hours simply observing, learning their patterns and favorite spots. Finding a metallic green and brown beetle perched on a bright yellow flower is a moment of pure joy, but getting that perfect, sharp shot requires a steady hand and a lot of calm. When it comes to gear, a dedicated macro lens is a game-changer. It allows you to get incredibly close, revealing intricate details you’d never see with the naked eye – like the delicate antennae of a skipper butterfly or the texture on a beetle's shell. But even with smartphones, you can often get great results with clip-on macro lenses, so don’t feel like you need expensive equipment to start! Lighting makes all the difference. I almost always use natural light, often early in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is softer. If it’s too bright, a small diffuser can help avoid harsh shadows. Getting the background right is also crucial for a clean macro shot. I try to position myself so the background is far away and out of focus, creating that beautiful, soft green blur you often see in professional insect images. This really helps the subject, like that vibrant bumblebee, pop! Focusing can be tricky. Insects move quickly! I usually set my camera to a single focus point and try to get the eye, or the head, of the insect as sharp as possible. For something like a brown skipper butterfly with its wings partially open, focusing on its body and antennae brings out all those amazing textures. It’s all about practice and learning to anticipate their movements. Ultimately, macro insect photography is an incredible way to connect with nature and appreciate the biodiversity right in our backyards. Each session is an adventure, and every successful shot feels like a precious discovery. I hope these insights encourage you to pick up a camera and explore the miniature marvels around you. You'll be amazed at what you find!

4 Essential Oils I Use to Repel Bugs
We do pest control every 3 months, but lately I’ve still been seeing way more spiders than usual. So I decided to make a natural essential oil spray to help repel them. A while ago I also made the spray for gnats. I spray straight on the soil and also around the plants, and it helped a lot. T
