I hate the Death Shepards in bg3
Okay, seriously, who else absolutely dreaded encountering the Death Shepherds in Baldur's Gate 3? I swear, these guys were some of the most frustrating enemies I faced in my entire playthrough. Every time I saw them, my heart would just sink, knowing a tough fight was ahead. I spent so many hours reloading saves, trying to figure out a reliable way to take them down without losing half my party! My initial attempts were disastrous. They hit like trucks, summon annoying allies, and just generally make a mess of things. I tried rushing them, kiting them, focusing on their summons first – nothing seemed to stick. It felt like I was constantly just barely surviving, or worse, getting wiped out entirely. The sheer amount of blood on the ground after some of those encounters was just... a lot. But after a lot of trial and error, I finally developed a few strategies that really turned the tide for me. First off, crowd control is your best friend. These guys are susceptible to certain conditions, and locking them down even for a turn can make a world of difference. Spells like 'Hold Person' or 'Slow' were invaluable. If you have a caster like Gale (especially around Lv.5 or higher), make sure he's loaded up with these. Don't underestimate area-of-effect spells either; they can clear out the smaller minions quickly, letting you focus fire on the Shepherds themselves. Another key insight for me was positioning. Don't let them corner you. Try to spread your party out to avoid their powerful cleave attacks and to make it harder for them to focus down one character. Using elevation can also be a huge advantage for your ranged attackers and spellcasters. Sometimes, just retreating a bit to bottleneck them into a chokepoint made the fight far more manageable. I also experimented with different damage types. While they're generally tough, finding vulnerabilities or resistances can sometimes give you an edge. Pay attention to those combat logs! For me, focusing on burst damage was often more effective than prolonged engagements, as it limited the number of turns they had to deal damage and summon reinforcements. And don't forget consumables! Potions of speed, special arrows, and scrolls can absolutely turn a losing fight into a victory. Interestingly, I even considered trying a non-lethal damage approach for a moment, just to see if there was some hidden dialogue or outcome, but decided against it for these particular foes. They just felt like they needed to be put down for good! Though, thinking about it now, some encounters in BG3 do have unexpected solutions through talk options, so it's always worth checking if there's a way to de-escalate or bypass a fight if you’re really struggling. For the Death Shepherds, though, it was definitely a fight to the death. So, if you're pulling your hair out over the Death Shepherds in BG3, remember: crowd control, smart positioning, and leveraging your spellcasters like Gale are your best bets. You can conquer them! It feels incredibly satisfying once you do.
