You get catfished by a torta💀😤

... Read moreOkay, you guys, I absolutely have to share this hilarious (and slightly disappointing) POV moment I had recently. We've all heard of getting catfished by people online, right? But have you ever been catfished by food? Specifically, a torta? Because that's precisely what happened to me last week, and I'm still laughing (and a little bit traumatized) about it. I was craving a classic Torta Cubana – you know, the works: ham, cheese, pork, avocado, a fried egg, all those amazing layers packed into a delicious bolillo roll. I found this new spot online with mouth-watering photos, and the menu description promised everything I dreamed of. I pictured a thick, glorious sandwich, bursting with flavor, just like the one in the picture on their app. My expectations were sky-high! So, I placed my order, practically salivating as I waited. When it finally arrived, I tore open the bag with anticipation. And then... shock. The torta in front of me was a sad, flat, almost empty-looking roll with what looked like maybe two thin slices of ham and a whisper of cheese. No fried egg, no avocado, definitely no glorious layers. It was the culinary equivalent of expecting a Hollywood blockbuster and getting a low-budget student film. I literally stared at it and thought, ‘Is this a joke? Did they send me the wrong order?’ That’s when it hit me: I’d been catfished by a torta! The advertising, the description, the beautiful photos – it was all a grand illusion. It looked nothing like what was promised. It was a classic case of what you see is NOT what you get. I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it, even though my hunger pangs were protesting. This experience made me think about how often this might happen with food. Sometimes, a menu item sounds incredible, or the picture is professionally styled, making it look irresistible. Then, when it arrives, it’s just… underwhelming. It might not be terrible, but it's certainly not the masterpiece you envisioned. So, how do we avoid being catfished by our meals? I've learned a few things from my sad torta experience. First, always check out recent reviews, especially those with real customer photos. Those are often way more accurate than the restaurant's own promotional shots. Second, don't be afraid to ask questions about ingredients or portion sizes, especially if you're ordering from a new place. And third, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is! While my torta wasn't a total disaster taste-wise, it was certainly a lesson in managing expectations and doing a little extra homework before ordering. Next time, I'm sticking to my tried-and-true spots or doing some serious research!
