Ep. 4 of the Entryway Makeover 🧚‍♂️

When we bought this house, I remember hating walking inside and seeing down into dark, gloomy basement right away. I’ve been dreaming of hiding it and giving it a pop of color to really lighten to mood too!

But now I have to decide between wallpaper or paneling OR wallpaper on top and paneling on bottom? Anyways, let me know what you think I should do!!! 😅🙏🏼

In my experience, framing off the stairs to create a cozy mudroom area behind it not only hides the unpleasant view but also adds practical storage and organization options, which is a huge plus for families with active kids. Choosing between wallpaper and paneling is a common dilemma. Wallpaper can bring vibrant colors and patterns that instantly lift a space’s mood, while paneling adds texture and a classic architectural detail. Combining the two—wallpaper on the upper walls and paneling below—is a smart way to get the best of both worlds, creating visual interest without overwhelming the space. One tip I found helpful: when working with kids who tend to throw things over stair railings or climb on them, consider sturdier solutions like framing a wall or adding rail guards. It’s a budget-friendly DIY approach that can make a huge impact and increase safety. Don’t shy away from archways or unique design features because of trends; personal style and comfort matter most in a home. Creating a bright, inviting entryway not only improves the home’s look but makes coming inside feel warm and welcoming. Adding a pop of color through wallpaper can energize the area, while paneling can complement it with subtle sophistication. I encourage experimenting with samples on your walls before making a final decision—it helps visualize how each option will feel in your actual space. Overall, the journey of transforming a gloomy basement entryway into an inviting mudroom and stairwell is rewarding. It’s about clever design choices, practical solutions, and a personal touch that reflects your lifestyle and taste.
