🌸What nobody tells you about Salicylic Acid🌸

Salicylic Acid is an exfoliating acid widely used to treat acne, a must-have for anyone with acne prone skin but here are somethings people don't tell you about it.

Do's:

1. Pair with a hydration essence like snail mucin. No, it won't break you out, but it will help you to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Salicylic acid tends to dry out your skin.

2. Pair with a gel moisturizer. Leave thick moisture for hydration days, for exfoliation days use a gel or lighter moisturizer so that it helps Salicylic acid to achieve its purpose.

3. Use on your exfoliation routine. A must have.

4. Use frequently to get rid of acne but not always! Ideally only 2-3x a week, more than that can truly damage your skin barrier.

Don't's:

1. NEVER ever use it during the DAY. Yes, even under sunscreen, it's extremely dangerous to use during the day because it can literally burn your skin. it's an exfoliating acid, and it's strong. For daytime use Centella ampules or bean essence.

2. NEVER overexfoliate, meaning, don't use a Salicylic acid everyday. One or two products with Salicylic acid is more than enough but you should only use them on your exfoliation nighttime routine. Using Salicylic acid everyday can truly break your skin barrier and cause extreme damage and even more acne💔 (happened to me).

3. Avoid Salicylic acid cleansers unless they also contain hydrating ingredients. But again, don't use it everyday.

4. NEVER MIX SALICYLIC ACID AND RETINOL. This is the worst thing you can do, in fact, Retinol should have its own night routine day, but if you do not need or use retinol then never pair it up with Salicylic.

🌟Thank you for reading, is there anything else you think I should add to this list? 😉

... Read moreSalicylic Acid is a well-known beta hydroxy acid (BHA) often recommended for acne-prone skin due to its ability to penetrate pores and dissolve excess oil. However, without proper usage, it can also lead to skin irritation and various other issues. To optimize your skincare regimen incorporating Salicylic Acid, consider these effective strategies: Firstly, always incorporate a hydrating serum in your routine. Products containing snail mucin or hyaluronic acid can help counteract the drying effects of Salicylic Acid and maintain a balanced skin moisture level while ensuring effective exfoliation. For individuals also looking to tackle acne scars or hyperpigmentation, integrating a vitamin C serum at night can complement your skincare, providing antioxidant support and brightening benefits. Additionally, when choosing a moisturizer, gel-based formulas can be particularly beneficial post-exfoliation as they hydrate without overwhelming the skin. When selecting cleansers, pick ones that include beneficial ingredients like tea tree oil for added antibacterial properties, while avoiding those that excessively strip the skin of its natural oils. Moreover, patience is key! Expectations of overnight results can lead to over-application, which can hinder skin recovery and exacerbate acne. Stick to using Salicylic Acid 2-3 times weekly, allowing your skin to adjust and recuperate between uses. Understanding your skin type is crucial; individuals with sensitive skin may wish to consult with a dermatologist before incorporating Salicylic Acid into their regimen. Lastly, never forget: the post-exfoliation phase is equally as important. Utilizing soothing, hydrating masks or soothing topical treatments can help mitigate sensitivity or redness post-application. Incorporating these comprehensive tips will not only enhance the efficacy of your products but also promote a healthier skin barrier, ultimately leading to clearer and healthier skin in the long run.
