We are NOT a cult

I’ve been part of various social groups and witnessed how easily communities can be misunderstood, especially when they embrace unique identities and practices. The term "cult" often gets thrown around without considering the true meaning: a cult typically involves manipulation, coercion, and control over members. In contrast, many groups, especially those celebrating LGBTQ+ identities, use symbols like robes or specific terms simply to express pride and belonging, not to control. From my experience, it’s important to look deeper before judging a community. Open dialogue and shared values like respect and acceptance differentiate supportive groups from cults. Wearing distinctive clothing, such as robes, can be a way to create unity and celebrate identity, not a sign of brainwashing. If you ever feel unsure about a community, ask questions and seek transparency about how decisions are made and whether members have freedom to leave or express dissent. Genuine communities foster empowerment rather than dependency. Recognizing these signs helps prevent misunderstanding and promotes a more inclusive society.
