Catnip 🌿

Did you know that catnip is not just for our furry little friends!? Catnip can be made into a tea!

Catnip tea is great for relaxation and a good way to help you relax before bed like chamomile.

The catnip plant is in the mint family. I would highly suggest planting in a larger pot or somewhere where you don’t mind it spreading. The plant overall is pretty easy to take care of and low maintenance; needs a little bit of love and water.

When the catnip plant flowers, it’s a good source for the pollinators if you plant it near your garden.

My cats love when I pick off the leaves and give them to them fresh. The plant when it’s picked fresh is more potent or has a stronger smell than the store-bought package catnip. We also love to cut the bush back and dry the leaves to save for later. When the leaves are dry, you can put them in your cats favorite toys.

... Read moreCatnip (Nepeta cataria) is often celebrated for its effects on cats, but it also boasts a range of benefits for humans. This aromatic herb, part of the mint family, has been used for centuries for its calming properties. Catnip tea, made from the leaves and flowers of the plant, can be a soothing beverage before bedtime, helping to promote relaxation similar to chamomile tea. This makes catnip a fantastic option for those seeking natural remedies to alleviate anxiety or improve sleep quality. When planting catnip in your garden, it's essential to allocate sufficient space, as it can spread quickly and become invasive if not managed. Grow it in a pot or designated area to maintain control. Additionally, catnip flowers can attract beneficial pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing your garden's biodiversity. This makes catnip not only a great herb for personal use but also a fantastic support for local wildlife. For cat owners, harvesting fresh catnip leaves can be a delightful experience for both pets and their human companions. Fresh catnip provides a more intense scent than dried versions found in stores, leading to heightened excitement for cats. It's often recommended to dry some of the harvested leaves for later use, whether for stuffing in toys or simply to give your pet those delightful treats year-round. Lastly, consider the broader uses of catnip beyond just relaxation. It's been noted in traditional herbal medicine to help with digestive issues, colds, and even fever reduction. This multifaceted herb can add value to both your life and the well-being of your pets. Cultivating catnip is not only rewarding but serves as a testament to the harmonious relationship humans can cultivate with nature.
