A romcom set in DC with P&P vibes
Day Four of the Thirty Books Thirty Days Challenge I’m brining it back to one of my friends books that’s currently out of print but one that had an impact on my life that’s still ringing.
❤️The Politics of Love by Drew Taylor.
4 Reasons I think you’ll love this book:
• The Quotes and therefore the dialogue. Drew Taylor has a wonderful way of putting words to the feelings running inside us.
• Characters. I always go back to this, the characters make this book compelling on different level. They struggle, they overcome, and they show growth.
• The setting. Though not some place often associated with Romcoms DC was a really fun and interesting experience.
• The P&P vibes that this story echos so beautifully.
I have so many quotes underlined in this book. The few I made graphics on are some that continue to inspire me.
Thanks Drew Taylor for writing this book, even though I know it was not easy for you.
⭐️Thirty reviews. Thirty days. It’s a challenge and I’m coming for it this December as a way to say thank you to all the authors who’ve had an impact on me this year.
Will you join me in posting some reviews this December?

I'm still buzzing from reading 'The Politics of Love' by Drew Taylor, and honestly, it's one of those books that just sticks with you. As part of my #thankfulthirtybooks challenge, I wanted to really dive into why this story resonated so deeply with me, and why I think you absolutely need to add it to your TBR pile. What really struck me, and I think many of us can relate to, is how Drew Taylor tackles the age-old dilemma of balancing ambition with the desire for personal connection. There’s a powerful quote that stayed with me, about how "The world tells me wanting marriage and love is for the birds. I should chase my career and excel." This book really explores that struggle. We're often told to prioritize our careers, to achieve professional success above all else, but what about that secret longing for a "handsome prince to come sweep me off my feet"? 'The Politics of Love' doesn't shy away from these internal conflicts, showing characters who are brilliant and driven, yet also yearn for deep, meaningful relationships. It's incredibly refreshing to see that portrayed so authentically. And those 'P&P vibes'? They are *chef's kiss*. If you adore the witty banter, the strong female leads, and the slow-burn romance of classic Jane Austen, you're in for a treat. This isn't just a fluffy romance; it's got depth, intelligent characters, and a romance that feels earned. The way the characters challenge each other, grow, and ultimately find their way through misunderstandings feels wonderfully reminiscent of those beloved tales. The DC setting is another star of the show. It's not your typical rom-com backdrop, which makes it all the more captivating. The political atmosphere adds a unique layer to the story, influencing relationships and providing a dynamic canvas for the characters' lives. It’s a genius move that makes the whole experience feel fresh and engaging. If you loved the heartwarming charm of 'From Notting Hill with Love . . . Actually' or appreciate a good emotional journey in your romance like some recommend 'The Tearsmith' (though this one is much lighter!), 'The Politics of Love' hits that sweet spot. It offers smart dialogue and genuine emotion. For anyone looking for more books or movies with strong independent characters navigating career and romance, I'd also suggest exploring stories where protagonists face similar societal pressures or political backdrops. Think of romantic comedies where careers play a significant role, or even dramas where characters must choose between personal desires and public expectations. Finding stories that reflect this balance can be incredibly validating and inspiring. This book truly had an impact on my life, and I'm so grateful for authors like Drew Taylor who pour their hearts into these stories. It reminds us that it's okay to chase our careers and secretly (or not so secretly!) hope for that fairytale ending. If you're pondering what to read next, especially if you're looking for a clever, heartfelt rom-com with depth, trust me, this one's a winner. Seriously, pick it up!
