Book Review: A Little Luck & The Dark Side of Skin

// BOOK NOTES //

Last week I finished A Little Luck by Claudio Piñero, translated from the Spanish by Frances Riddle and The Dark Side of Skin by Jeferson Tenório, translated from the Portuguese by Bruna Dantas Lobato.

Both were incredible reads and honestly so emotional and heartbreaking in different ways. While A Little Luck took me on a journey of a woman experiencing a tragic incident and having to make life-altering decisions that changed the trajectory of people’s lives for years to come, The Dark Side of Skin took me down the road of someone trying to take the lead in their own life while moving through grief and going on a mission to understand their deceased father by going through objects he left behind and family history.

The pain and weight in both stories were so raw and palpable, they left me with much to think about. These are not stories you read and then forget about. They continue to stir your emotions, and provoke thoughts and questions.

If you’ve not had a chance to read either of these books, I highly recommend them.
