Studying for Nursing School is a Learned Skill

It took me time to figure out how to organize and structure my days for success in nursing school. It also took me time to learn what worked for me.

Yes, I made it to running an accelerated BSN program and still had to re-read text when I was in nursing school - there is nothing wrong with that.

We all learn differently and at different paces - and for those memorizing material and not understanding the connections - well it may lead to struggle in the clinical space.

Take your time to understand your content and be kind to yourself 🫶🏼 #nursingstudent #rnstudent #nursingstudents #nursingschool #nursingprogram

... Read moreStudying in nursing school requires a unique set of skills tailored to the rigorous demands of the field. Acknowledging the struggles is the first step toward improvement. Effective time management is crucial; creating a study schedule that allows you to balance coursework with personal time can lead to better retention of material. Consider integrating different study techniques, such as active recall, spaced repetition, or using visuals like mind maps to better understand connections between concepts. Join study groups with your peers to help clarify doubts and reinforce learning through discussion. Additionally, practice self-care routines, as mental health plays a significant role in your ability to learn and retain information. Remember that everyone has unique learning preferences. Some may thrive with auditory learning through lectures, while others might benefit from hands-on experiences in clinical simulations. Seek out varied resources such as online platforms and nursing apps that offer practice questions and interactive content. Connecting with mentors or experienced nurses can also provide invaluable insights into what to focus on for success in both exams and real-world situations. Always remind yourself: it's perfectly okay to take your time and seek help when needed, making sure to prioritize your understanding over mere memorization.
