Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your 'To Be Read' pile, or found yourself stuck in a reading rut, reaching for the same genres? I certainly have! That's why I decided to turn my TBR into a true 'reading adventure' with a super fun and simple method: wrapping my books! It all started because I wanted to add an element of surprise and excitement back into my reading life. Instead of endlessly scrolling Goodreads or agonizing over what to pick next, I thought, 'Why not let fate decide?' So, I took all of my physical TBR books and individually wrapped them in plain paper. It's a bit like wrapping gifts for Christmas, but these gifts are just for me, and they unveil a whole new world of stories! The real magic happens when it's time to choose my next read. Once a week, I get to draw a random book from my wrapped pile. It’s genuinely thrilling! I never know what I'm going to get – it could be a fantasy epic, a gripping thriller, a heartwarming romance, or a thought-provoking non-fiction title. This unpredictability is what makes it such a fantastic 'reading adventure.' Each unwrap feels like opening a mystery box, promising a journey into the unknown. It’s a fantastic way to rekindle that childhood excitement of unwrapping a present, but for your mind! Beyond the sheer fun of it, this method has some amazing benefits. Firstly, it completely eliminates decision fatigue. No more staring at a shelf full of books, wondering what to read. The choice is made for you, and it’s liberating! Secondly, it pushes me out of my comfort zone. I’ve ended up reading books I might have otherwise ignored or put off, simply because they weren't what I 'felt like' reading at that exact moment. And guess what? Many of these 'random picks' have turned into new favorites! It's a wonderful way to discover hidden gems on your own shelf and broaden your literary horizons without even trying. If you're looking to inject some spontaneity and joy into your reading, I highly recommend trying your own 'wrapped TBR adventure.' You don't need fancy paper – even newspaper or brown paper bags work perfectly! Just make sure each book is completely hidden so there are no peeking cheats. You can decide your own frequency for drawing – maybe every other week, or even once a month if your reading pace is slower. Some people even add little tags with genres or first lines on the outside of the wrapped book to add a tiny hint without giving away the whole surprise. The key is the element of surprise and embracing whatever literary journey comes your way. It really transforms your TBR from a daunting task into an exciting game of discovery. Give it a try, and let me know about your own 'random book' adventures – I'd love to hear what treasures you uncover!
