👏🏼 Well said.

If this message offends you, then perhaps it’s time to ask yourself why. And if you truly believe compassion, critical thinking, and basic human decency are weaknesses, you’re welcome to remove yourself from my friends list. I have no desire to surround myself with people who refuse to be open-minded or unwilling to understand experiences beyond their own.

Those of us living in mixed-status families understand something many people refuse to acknowledge: a nation can have secure borders while also upholding the laws that exist to protect people. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. My husband—and countless others—deserve the due process and legal protections our laws provide.

If you’re genuinely curious, ask questions. Better yet, do what I’ve spent the last nine months doing while my husband has been detained: research. Read the laws. Follow the cases. Learn the difference between opinion and fact. Immigration law is one of the most complex areas of law in this country. It changes constantly, and the amount of misinformation being spread is staggering. It’s no wonder so many people have strong opinions about something they have never taken the time to understand.

This isn’t political theater for my family. This is our life.

It’s watching our children cry for their father. It’s missed birthdays, missed milestones, financial hardship, emotional trauma, and waking up every single day wondering when our family will finally be together again.

I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone.

Before judging families like mine, remember that behind every headline and every case number is a real family fighting to stay whole.

“One nation under God.”

Maybe it’s time we started acting like it—with justice, compassion, truth, and mercy.

8/1 Edited to

... Read moreLiving through the complexities of immigration has been a profound lesson in resilience and compassion. Families with mixed immigration status often feel caught between the harsh realities of enforcement and their hopes for unity and justice. From my experience and the stories shared by others in similar situations, it becomes clear that the human side of immigration is overlooked in many public debates. Many of these families are deeply rooted in their communities—working hard, paying taxes, raising children, and contributing to the local economy. They are neighbors, friends, colleagues, and parents invested in their children’s future. When detention or separation occurs, the impact is devastating—not just emotionally but financially and socially. It’s essential to understand that the immigration system in the U.S. is highly complex and ever-changing. Misinformation spreads easily, making it difficult for people to differentiate between myths and facts. Taking the time to research and engage with immigration laws, court cases, and real-life stories can foster a more empathetic and informed perspective. Due process and fairness in legal proceedings must remain a priority to protect not only national security but also individual dignity and family integrity. Enforcement should be balanced with discretion to avoid unnecessary heartbreak, particularly for children who may be left without a parent. Advocacy for reform focuses on creating an immigration system that reflects current economic and social realities: one that secures borders while keeping families intact and providing clear, workable legal pathways. Compassion, common sense, and accountability are not mutually exclusive—they can and should coexist. Ultimately, behind every case number and headline, there are real families who deserve justice and mercy. Recognizing this shared humanity is critical if we want to act as 'one nation under God,' guided by truth and compassion rather than fear and division.
