Don’t dwell on the past, look forward

““Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Did God not tell Lots wife to not look back? Did he not warn the Israelites not to desire to go back to slavery in Egypt because the familiarity of their suffering was more comforting than the desert they had to travel through to the land God promised them? Did he not warn his people over and over again not to look back, but to look to Him?! Keep your eyes firmly fixed on the Lord. Don’t look back and don’t worry about the future. Your only assignment is to love God and get to know him…and then share the gospel with others. So take your thoughts captive and stop reminiscing on the past and don’t worry or fear the unknown future. God has everything under control, just leave it in his hands 😁

... Read moreReflecting on the powerful message from Isaiah 43:18-19, it’s important to understand the transformative nature of letting go of past hardships to welcome new opportunities. The scripture emphasizes that God is actively 'doing a new thing,' creating paths in unexpected places such as wilderness and wastelands. This metaphor encourages believers to trust in God’s guidance even when circumstances seem uncertain or difficult. This idea resonates deeply when considering biblical events like the story of Lot’s wife and the Israelites’ journey out of Egypt. Lot’s wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt, symbolizing the danger of longing for what must be left behind. Similarly, the Israelites were repeatedly cautioned not to crave the familiarity of their past enslavement despite its hardships because God had promised them a land of freedom and prosperity. In practical terms, these lessons encourage an active mindset of faith. Instead of dwelling on previous mistakes, regrets, or fears of the unknown future, believers are invited to 'take thoughts captive'—a concept rooted in biblical teachings encouraging control over one’s mindset and emotions. This discipline helps maintain focus on the present mission: loving God, deepening one’s relationship with Him, and sharing the gospel with others. Trusting God with the future alleviates worry and fear. Although it’s natural to hesitate when facing uncertainty, faith reassures us that our paths are not random but divinely orchestrated. Just as streams flow through deserts and new roads appear where none existed, God’s promises manifest in ways beyond human imagination. Ultimately, the call to not dwell on the past but look forward is a reminder of God’s mercy and renewal. Every moment is an invitation to experience His grace anew. By surrendering control and embracing His plans with joyful confidence, believers find peace and purpose amidst life's changing seasons.
