‼️USJ on a Budget: No Express Pass, No Problem!! 💰

👋🏻 It’s been a while… but I’m back!

Last year, I travelled to Japan for the first time 🇯🇵 and of course, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) was a must! 🎢✨

But omg… the Express Pass prices were CRAZY expensive 😭 Paying that much for just a few rides really didn’t feel worth it, so we decided to skip the Express Pass entirely.

Surprisingly, we still had a super fun and fulfilling day and managed to clear many popular rides! 🙌

So if you’re planning to visit USJ without an Express Pass, here are my useful tips! ❗️👇

🌟 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙐𝙎𝙅 𝙒𝙄𝙏𝙃𝙊𝙐𝙏 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙨!

🕖 1. Go early (earlier than you think!)

Everyone says this, and they’re right. We reached at 7:20am and it was already very crowded 😵‍💫 If possible, aim to arrive even earlier!

🎟️ 2. Get your area timed tickets immediately

Once the park opens, secure your area timed entry tickets ASAP via the app. We didn’t get the first slot, but that was totally fine! We used the time to clear the Harry Potter rides first ✨

🧍‍♂️ 3. Use Single Rider queues

If Single Rider is available, take it. We used it for the Super Mario ride, still a wait, but definitely much shorter than the normal queue!

📱 4. Monitor ride wait times on the USJ app

This is super important! It started drizzling in the afternoon and the wait time for Hollywood Dream dropped to just 20 minutes 😱 We rushed there immediately and cleared it! (Almost tried the backwards version too… but we got scared lol 😂)

Anyway, here are my tips! Hopefully we all get to ride the rides that we all want! 💖

Universal Studios Japan

... Read moreIf you're planning your visit to Universal Studios Japan (USJ) without an Express Pass, it’s important to tailor your strategy to maximize your time and enjoyment. Based on my trip and monitoring real-time data, one of the smartest moves is to download the official USJ app before your visit. The app provides crucial resources like ride wait times, show schedules, and importantly, the ability to secure your area timed entry tickets right at park opening. Timed entry tickets for Super Nintendo World are highly sought after, so getting yours as soon as the park gates open can help you bypass the longest queues later. Even if you don’t get the earliest time slot, you can use that wait period to explore less crowded areas like the Harry Potter zone, where rides often have shorter lines during early hours. Another insider tip is to take advantage of Single Rider queues whenever possible. These lines move faster since they fill empty seats, saving you considerable wait time for popular rides like Super Mario Kart. Keep a flexible schedule and regularly check the app because weather changes or ride breakdowns can temporarily shorten waits at certain attractions, giving you chance to jump on faster. Finally, arriving at USJ earlier than you think is critical. On my visit, arriving at 7:20 AM already found significant crowds, so aiming for even earlier entry (if permitted) can place you near the front of queues before official opening. Pair these tactics with packing light and carrying snacks to save time on food lines, and you’re set for a budget-friendly, fun-filled day at USJ without an Express Pass. Enjoy your adventure!
