SPF, LADIES & GENTS!!!
Friendly reminder that as we go into #summer - REMEMBER YOUR SUNSCREEN!!! It helps protect against damaging UV rays that cause skin damage.
I use sun bum spf 50 and neutrogena spf 70.
Okay, let’s be real, we all get excited for summer days, sunshine, and outdoor adventures! But in all that fun, it’s so easy to forget one crucial step: applying (and reapplying!) sunscreen. I used to be guilty of thinking, “Oh, I’ll just get a little tan,” or “It’s only a quick trip outside.” But trust me, after seeing the long-term effects of sun exposure on skin, I’ve become a total SPF evangelist! Why is sunscreen so important, you ask? It's not just about avoiding a painful sunburn in the short term. Sunscreen is your best friend in preventing premature aging – think fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots – and more importantly, it drastically reduces your risk of skin cancer. Those UV rays, both UVA and UVB, are relentless, even on cloudy days or when you’re just sitting by a window. UVA rays contribute to aging, while UVB rays are the main cause of sunburn. Broad-spectrum SPF protects against both, which is why it’s a must-have in our daily routine. Now, let's talk about how to actually incorporate it effectively so you truly 'don't forget sunscreen'. First, choose wisely. Look for an SPF of 30 or higher that explicitly states 'broad-spectrum' on the label. If you're planning to swim or sweat, opt for a water-resistant formula. Mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) create a physical barrier and are often great for sensitive skin, while chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays. Pick what works best for your skin type! Next, application is key. A lot of us aren't using enough! For your face and neck, try the 'two-finger rule': squeeze a line of sunscreen along your pointer and middle finger. That’s generally the right amount for adequate coverage. Like in those mirror selfie moments where I focus on applying that white cream all over my face and neck, ensuring full coverage is crucial! Don't forget those often-missed spots: your ears, the back of your neck, your décolletage, and even the tops of your hands. They're just as exposed! And here’s the kicker: reapplication! Sunscreen isn't a one-and-done deal for the whole day. You need to reapply it every two hours, or immediately after swimming, excessive sweating, or towel drying. Think of it as topping up your protection. It might seem like a hassle at first, but once you get into the habit, it becomes second nature. I even keep a small tube in my bag so I’m never caught without it. Finally, don't buy into the myths. "I have darker skin, so I don't need sunscreen" is a dangerous misconception; everyone, regardless of skin tone, needs sun protection. "My makeup has SPF" is usually not enough; makeup SPF is often too low, and we rarely apply enough to get the advertised protection. Make sunscreen a standalone step in your morning routine, just like brushing your teeth. It’s an investment in your skin’s health and beauty for years to come. So, let’s all promise to make SPF our best friend this summer and beyond!
