It was December 28, 2017. I was scrolling through iFunny (in collective, I might add), and found a relatable post about Ohio. I left a single comment saying, “hey, I’m from Ohio too!”.
Fast forward 6 years and we’ve been married a year & have a wonderful child together. I wouldn’t change it for the world… but it’s so very strange how this ended up working.
When we started talking, I had absolutely no intention of catching feelings for someone I met online. Especially not someone from iFunny… and especially not someone who lived 3.5 hours away from me. Alas, things have a funny way of working out.
Truthfully I was getting annoyed at him because he would text me so frequently. I honestly almost blocked him - but eventually he started growing on me. So much so that when he told me that it couldn’t work out due to distance, I told him “you didn’t just talk to me for weeks just to tell me no”. Here I was, not allowing this boy walk away when HE was the one that was texting ME for weeks 🤪
We started flirting, and eventually when I moved out for college, I started to visit him, and he would visit me. From there, the trips became more frequent and much more bearable. We grew together as a couple, we went through college together, and we got married in September 2022. We had our beautiful baby girl in 2023 and life has just been so amazing with him ever since we truly met.
It’s always so weird explaining to others that we met on ifunny, so I usually tell them we met over Facebook. Still awkward, but… less. 😂
... Read moreIt’s amazing how life brings people together in the most unexpected places, isn't it? Just like finding love on a platform like iFunny, many of us often wonder about the origins of these digital spaces that become part of our stories.
So, when did iFunny actually come out? This popular meme-sharing app, which has been the backdrop for countless laughs and, surprisingly, even serious connections like the one shared in the original post, first launched in 2011. Originally conceived as a simple platform for users to share funny pictures, videos, and GIFs, iFunny quickly grew into a vibrant community. It became a go-to source for internet humor, allowing users to scroll through 'collective' feeds, comment, and interact with content creators and fellow meme enthusiasts.
Over the years, iFunny has evolved, but its core mission to deliver daily doses of laughter remains. What’s truly fascinating is how these seemingly casual online spaces can foster genuine human connection. Think about it: a platform designed for sharing jokes inadvertently creates a space where a simple comment, like the one that led to the author's "first meeting" in 2018, can spark a lifelong relationship. It speaks volumes about the human desire to connect, even through the most informal channels.
While iFunny’s primary function isn't dating, its community-driven nature allows for organic interactions. Users connect over shared interests, humor, and sometimes, even relatable posts about their hometowns. This leads to DMs, texts, and eventually, those first tentative steps towards a real-life connection. It's a testament to the idea that love truly finds a way, even if that way is through an app known for memes!
This story, culminating in a beautiful "wedding" in 2022, serves as a heartwarming reminder that every online interaction holds potential. Whether you're just looking for a laugh or accidentally stumble upon your soulmate, the digital world is full of surprises. It makes you think about how many other amazing connections have started in the most unconventional of places since iFunny first came out all those years ago. It really goes to show that you never know where your next great adventure, or even your next great love, might begin!
