Depressive episode cleaning ❤️‍🩹

It’s hard to post this. It’s hard to admit my house gets messy/dirty, especially when it just keeps piling up. When I get my depressive episodes, I feel like I can’t breathe, let alone keep up with daily housework… I drown in my own house, always beating myself up over what I cannot control. IYKYK. And if you don’t… I hope you never do. I got back to it today. I’m feeling a bit better and took advantage of my energy. Onward and upward. 💗

... Read moreCleaning when feeling overwhelmed can be particularly daunting, especially for those experiencing depressive episodes. Acknowledging the emotional burden that this can create is a crucial first step. Many find solace in small, manageable tasks. Start by focusing on a single area, such as the kitchen, and gradually expand to other spaces. Setting a timer can create a sense of urgency, making even the smallest actions feel productive. The before-and-after visuals can serve as motivating reminders of progress, enhancing feelings of accomplishment. Incorporating mindfulness techniques while cleaning can also foster a more positive environment. Listening to music or podcasts can make the chores seem less tedious, aiding in distraction from intrusive thoughts. It’s important to be patient with yourself, allowing flexibility in your routine. Remember, it’s okay to seek help from friends or family members who understand these challenges. Engaging with online communities can provide additional support and tips for maintaining a clean space when you're feeling low. Building a routine that honors both self-care and chores can transform cleaning from a daunting task into a manageable part of your self-care strategy.

I completely understand this! I struggle with cleaning due to a combo of ADHD and depression. It’s really hard to focus on cleaning when you are down. I do like it when I finally get things clean though. The struggle is real!
