A holiday hit 🥹🥰

Chocolate pretzels are one of my favorite holiday desserts! I used to make them with my mom all the time growing up. They’re salty and sweet and look so aesthetic!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Milk chocolate melting wafers

White chocolate / vanilla melting wafers

Sprinkles of choice

Pretzel rods

Avocado oil (in case you need to thin out the chocolate dip)

Melt the chocolate following the instructions on the bag. I use a spoon to help coat 1/2 to 2/3 of the pretzels in chocolate, set them on a baking sheet with parchment paper, and then I drizzle with the other chocolate & top with sprinkles. Put in fridge to cool/harden.

It's a tradition I cherish, and I've picked up a few tips over the years that I'm excited to share to make your batch even more perfect. When it comes to melting chocolate, I often opt for the microwave for convenience, using 30-second intervals and stirring well between each to prevent burning. However, a double boiler offers a gentler, more even melt, especially if you're working with larger quantities or more delicate chocolates. The original recipe mentions avocado oil, which is a fantastic trick if your chocolate seems a bit too thick – just a tiny bit helps achieve that smooth, perfect coating without altering the flavor. Once your chocolate is beautifully melted, getting an even coat on your pretzel rods is key. I usually hold the pretzel by one end and use a spoon or a small spatula to gently spread the chocolate up about two-thirds of the rod. Don't be afraid to let a little excess drip off before placing them on parchment paper. Now for the fun part: drizzling and decorating! For the contrasting drizzles, like using white chocolate over milk chocolate, I often put the melted chocolate into a small Ziploc bag, snip off a tiny corner, and then drizzle back and forth over the partially set pretzels. This creates those beautiful, artistic lines you see on many homemade chocolate-covered pretzel rods. And of course, colorful sprinkles are a must for these festive holiday desserts! I add them immediately after drizzling, while the chocolate is still wet, to ensure they stick perfectly. You can go for classic Christmas colors, or mix it up with iridescent or even themed sprinkles for different occasions. Once decorated, pop them in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes to harden, and they'll be ready to enjoy or package up! Beyond just pretzels, this method is fantastic for a variety of other chocolate-covered treats. I often use similar techniques for chocolate-dipped Oreos, marshmallows on sticks, dried fruit, or even homemade rice krispie treats cut into festive shapes. Using different types of chocolate – dark, milk, white, or even flavored melts – can totally change the experience. Imagine dark chocolate with a peppermint drizzle, or white chocolate with a hint of orange zest! The possibilities are endless. One of the best parts about making your own chocolate-covered treats, especially compared to buying a chocolate covered treats price list from a gourmet shop, is the incredible value. A bag of pretzel rods and a few bags of melting wafers are so much more affordable than a small box of specialty treats.
