My kids are 2, 4, and 6. They know that Santa used to be a person named St. Nicolaus and now he is a character or idea that represents spreading joy and kindness during the holiday season. I didn’t tell them any of that; they told me and I reinforced it. They believed in him until this year. My 2 year old is probably still clueless though.
