Moving to a new city?!

Alright friends so ya girl has to move in a few months when my lease is up, but ORIGINALLY I was thinking Birmingham, AL so I can go back to school, but there’s also a school in Atlanta ( where i lived prior to my current city ) & now i’m having second thoughts …

The pros & cons are generally the same !

I’d be in a new-ish city, with new-ish people, having to rebuild clientele, and go to school. & as long as I stay within my budget, I’ll be fine!

My dilemma is my current clients (seeing as i’m a hairstylist) Birmingham is about an hour or so away from my current city & I do have some willing to travel there but Atlanta is TWO hours away from my current city… however I do plan to travel back here anyway to take clients on a regular basis. So my thought process is, should I do what I want to do because this is MY life after all… or do I stay close for the sake of others …?

What do you think friends?

... Read moreRelocating to a new city involves multiple factors beyond just picking a destination, especially for professionals like hairstylists who rely heavily on client retention and local networks. When deciding between Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, it’s important to consider commute times, cost of living differences, and access to education opportunities. Birmingham, being closer to the current city, offers a manageable commute for existing clients willing to travel, which can help sustain your business as you rebuild. Atlanta, although two hours away, might offer broader opportunities for personal growth and schooling, plus a bigger market to expand your clientele in the long run. A key strategy is to weigh personal life goals with professional responsibilities. For example, planning regular trips back to your original city to service clients can maintain business continuity even if you relocate farther away. Budget considerations also matter—making sure your new city fits your financial capabilities ensures less stress during transitions. Many people face similar dilemmas, balancing their dreams with practical obligations, and it ultimately boils down to what matters most for your happiness and career trajectory. Additionally, consider enrolling in schools where community and networking opportunities align with your career. Atlanta’s big city environment could open doors for new professional connections in hairstyling and cosmetology, while Birmingham might offer more affordable living and a close-knit community feel. Lastly, embracing change and being adaptable when moving to new environments will help in establishing your client base afresh. Engage with local communities, salons, and social media platforms to expand your presence effectively. Remember, this move is your life and career journey—making a choice that prioritizes your aspirations will lead to more fulfilling outcomes.

Relocating as a single mom and a nurse can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re carrying the weight of your child’s future on your shoulders. I want to be clear about something: this wasn’t luck, and it definitely wasn’t overnight. It was intentional, slow, and very calculated. Before I ever

Monologue Moving to A New City
