From my recent visit to Slow Day Cafe in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru, I found that their dessert offerings are definitely the main attraction, especially for matcha lovers like myself. The Matcha Nama Cake stood out with its strong matcha flavor balanced perfectly by the ganache, which added just the right amount of moisture to an otherwise slightly dry gateau. I particularly appreciated how the middle layer was decadently dense and fudgy, creating a multi-textured eating experience. For those who prefer something creamy, the Pistachio Blush was a delightful option. The burnt cheesecake carried a rich pistachio taste that dominated the palate, although the raspberry whipped cream provided a subtle contrast that didn’t overpower. I noticed the raspberry flavor was quite mild, so if you enjoy tartness, you might want to remind the server to add extra raspberry whipped cream. In addition to cakes, I tried a few drinks such as the Genmaicha (classic roasted green tea) and Peach Soda. These beverages were refreshing complements to the rich cakes but didn’t stand out as much on their own. Nevertheless, they fit well with the café’s calm and relaxed vibe. If you’re exploring cafes in JB, Slow Day Cafe is definitely worth a stop, especially for those with a penchant for Japanese-style desserts. The café ambiance is cozy and perfect for casual gatherings. I’m already planning a return visit to try other items like the Matcha Strawberry cake.
