Almond Butter (recipe!)

Store bought almond butter is no doubt convenient and way easier than roasting and blending your own almonds. BUT, store bought pales in comparison to the flavor from a batch of almond butter you can (somewhat) easily blend at home. It’s a smidge time consuming, a little messy, and a bit noisy, but entirely worth it. Roast a single layer of of almonds on 350 for 15 minutes. Let those puppies cool for another 15 (this is the time consuming part). Place them in a blender and mix until smooth and creamy (this is the loud part, cleaning the blender is the messy part). Transfer to a storage container, let it cool, keep it in the fridge. Voila! Homemade almond butter, straight up. ✌️

Roasting your almonds at 300°F for 15 minutes enhances their natural oils and crunch, giving the almond butter a richer taste compared to raw blends. After roasting, letting the almonds cool for 15 minutes is crucial as it helps preserve the flavors and prevents your blender from overheating. When blending your roasted almonds, patience is key. Initially, the almonds will turn into a fine crumb, then slowly release oils and start to clump before finally becoming creamy almond butter. Using a high-powered blender or food processor can make this process easier and less noisy, but even a regular blender will work with some extra effort. The cleaning part can be a bit messy since almond butter is sticky, so it’s helpful to rinse your blender immediately after use. Homemade almond butter is incredibly versatile. You can enjoy it straight up on toast, add it to smoothies for extra protein and healthy fats, or use it as a base for salad dressings and sauces. Plus, making almond butter at home means you avoid added sugars or preservatives commonly found in store-bought versions. For longer storage, keep your almond butter refrigerated to maintain freshness and prevent oil separation. Incorporating whole foods like almond butter into your diet supports a wholesome lifestyle. Rich in vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy monounsaturated fats, almond butter promotes heart health and provides sustained energy. By making your own almond butter, you're not only enhancing flavor but also embracing a more natural and health-conscious approach to snacking.
