Proverbs 4:23 ~
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Anybody who has ever lived around a farm knows this…
You check the gates! 🙌🏼
You can have strong fences, healthy animals, plenty of pasture, and a beautiful barn… but if somebody leaves the gate standing wide open, you may have yourself a whole situation. 🫣😂🫣
Because a gate determines what gets in… and what gets out.
And spiritually, we have gates too.
Our eyes…
Our ears…
Our thoughts…
Our conversations…
Our relationships…
Our hearts…
The enemy doesn’t always come charging across the field making a bunch of noise. Sometimes he just looks for an open gate! 🙌🏼
A little offense you keep replaying…
A little fear you keep feeding…
A little comparison you keep entertaining…
A little bitterness you refuse to release…
A voice you’ve listened to so long that you’ve started confusing it with truth…
And before long, something that never belonged in your pasture is roaming around like it owns the place! 🙌🏼
Not today!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
There comes a time when you have to walk the fence line of your heart and ask…
Lord, is there a gate I’ve left open?
Because spiritual warfare isn’t only rebuking the enemy.
Sometimes spiritual warfare looks like closing the gate.
Turning off the noise…
Forgiving the person…
Stopping the thought…
Walking away from the conversation…
Opening your Bible instead of opening another door to fear…
And reminding the enemy…
This field belongs to the Lord! 🙌🏼
You don’t have to be afraid of the battle when you know Who owns the farm!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Jesus has already won the victory!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Your job today is to stay close to the Farmer, tend what He has entrusted to you, and guard the gate.
Jesus,
show me any place where I have allowed something into my heart that doesn’t belong there. Help me recognize the enemy’s lies before I agree with them. Guard my mind, my heart, my home, and everything You have entrusted to me.
Give me wisdom to know which gates need to be opened in obedience and which ones need to be shut and locked.
Today I declare that fear, bitterness, comparison, confusion, and discouragement do not get free pasture in my life.
This field belongs to You.

In my personal experience with spiritual warfare, I've come to realize that guarding the gates of our hearts—our eyes, ears, and thoughts—is fundamental to maintaining peace and faith. Just like a farmer wouldn't leave a gate open to let unwanted guests roam his fields, we need to be vigilant in our daily lives to prevent negativity, fear, and bitterness from entering our hearts. One practice that has helped me immensely is the daily examination of my thoughts and emotions. I ask myself if any gate has been left unintentionally open—perhaps a lingering bitterness toward someone, or unguarded exposure to harmful media. Closing these gates often means turning off distracting noise, walking away from harmful conversations, or choosing scripture reading over feeding fear. Additionally, forgiveness is a crucial gatekeeper. Holding on to offense or resentment invites turmoil into our spiritual pasture. By choosing to forgive, we close the gate on bitterness, preventing it from taking root. I also find great encouragement in the metaphor of the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11), which equips us to stand firm. Guarding the heart aligns with putting on this armor daily: truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God all serve as gates fortified against enemy intrusion. Remember, spiritual warfare isn’t always a loud battle—it can be subtle and silent. Yet, by guarding our hearts as instructed in Proverbs 4:23, we protect the flow of life, joy, and faith that sustains us. Trusting that Jesus owns the field reminds me that I am never alone in this fight; His victory is secure, and I am called to tend what He has entrusted to me with diligence. I encourage anyone walking this path to reflect on these gates and ask, "Which ones do I need to watch and close today?" It’s a humble yet powerful step toward living a victorious, faith-filled life.
