Proverbs 27:23 ~
“Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.”
There’s something about farm life that’ll preach if you’ll listen.
You can’t feed the animals on Sunday and expect that to carry them through Friday.
You can’t plant a garden, walk away from it for three weeks, and come back expecting the weeds to have politely minded their own business. 😁
And you sure can’t pray for a harvest and then neglect the field God gave you to tend! 🙌🏼
Some things require daily tending.
And friend… so does your faith! 🙌🏼
We love praying the big prayers…
“Lord, grow me.”
“Use me.”
“Restore my family.”
“Bless the ministry.”
“Open the door.”
“Give me the opportunity.”
But sometimes when God answers, the answer shows up looking suspiciously like work.
The opportunity needs tending…
The relationship needs tending…
The calling needs tending…
The gift needs tending…
And that little mustard seed of faith God planted inside you?
Yep. It needs tending too! 🙌🏼
Maybe you’ve been waiting for God to do something BIG while He’s pointing toward something small you’ve stopped taking care of.
That Bible sitting unopened…
That idea you wrote down months ago…
That person He keeps putting on your heart…
That gift you keep saying you’ll use “one day…”
That dream you prayed for… and then got discouraged because it didn’t grow overnight.
A farmer understands something we sometimes forget…
Growth doesn’t eliminate responsibility. Growth creates it! 🙌🏼
When God entrusts you with something, you don’t have to make it grow… that part belongs to Him! 🙌🏼
But you DO have to faithfully tend what He placed in your hands.
Water it…
Protect it…
Pray over it…
Show up for it…
Pull a few weeds when necessary.
And keep tending it even during seasons when there isn’t much visible fruit.
Because sometimes the very thing you’re tempted to neglect is the thing God intends to use to feed somebody else! 🙌🏼
Jesus, thank You for everything You have entrusted to me. Forgive me for the places I have asked You to bless but haven’t been willing to faithfully tend. Show me what needs my attention today. Give me discipline when I don’t feel motivated, patience when growth seems slow, and wisdom to care well for what You have placed in my hands. I trust You with the harvest while I remain faithful in the field. In Jesus’ name, Amen! 🤍

But when I began to nurture what God had already given me—whether it was reading the Bible regularly, reaching out to someone on my heart, or revisiting ideas I'd set aside—I noticed growth, sometimes subtle but steady. The analogy of the mustard seed is powerful; it reminds me that the smallest acts of faithfulness can blossom into significant impact when regularly tended. Some days, tending my faith looks like setting aside distractions to pray or journal, or even pulling away from negative thoughts that act as weeds.
