feel pretty enough for myself lately.

As an AAPI woman who comes from culture that has beauty standards for super light skin, no acne or blemishes, small noses, etc., I’ve had self-esteem issues about my appearance since I was a child.

I’ve been feeling pretty enough for myself lately, whether it’s because I’m getting older or finally knowing how to do my makeup 🤣 I haven’t uploaded a completely unfiltered photo of myself in years. AAPI women, in particular, may face heightened pressure to conform to ideals of flawless skin and specific facial features. However, learning to appreciate one's own unique beauty is crucial. Self-esteem issues often stem from comparison and unrealistic expectations—understanding this can be liberating. Utilizing makeup effectively can enhance features and boost confidence, but it's essential to remember that true beauty often comes from within. Engaging in self-care routines, including skincare, plays a pivotal role in cultivating a positive self-image. This includes understanding individual skin types and needs, adopting products that work best, and allowing natural beauty to shine through. Participating in communities that celebrate diversity and self-love can provide meaningful support and encouragement. Sharing experiences and tips about skincare routines, beauty hacks, and personal stories can foster connections and nurture a sense of belonging. Exploring hashtags like #glow, #beauty, and #selflove can connect individuals to uplifting content that inspires and empowers. Ultimately, embracing who you are, independent of external validation, is a step toward profound happiness and peace.
