Easy Chicken & Dumplings (with Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits)

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20–25 minutes

Total Time: About 30 minutes

Ingredients

* 1 can (16.3 oz) Pillsbury Grands! Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits

* 1 large and 1 small can of chunky chicken breast

* 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup

* 32 ounces chicken broth

* 2 tbsp butter

* ½ cup diced onion

* ½ cup diced celery

* 1 tsp poultry seasoning

* ½ tsp black pepper

* Garlic salt, to taste

⸻

Instructions:

1. Sauté the vegetables.

*Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and celery. Cook for about 5 minutes, until softened.

2. Build the broth.

*Stir in the cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, black pepper, and garlic salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

3. Add the chicken.

*Stir in the canned chunk chicken and return the mixture to a gentle simmer.

4. Prepare the dumplings.

*Open the can of biscuits. Cut each biscuit into 4–6 equal pieces. For less doughy dumplings, you can lightly flatten or roll each biscuit before cutting.

5. Cook the dumplings.

*Drop the biscuit pieces into the simmering broth one at a time so they don’t stick together. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring gently once about halfway through, until the dumplings are cooked through and fluffy.

Serve hot and enjoy!

... Read moreThis Easy Chicken & Dumplings recipe is a lifesaver for busy weeknights when you crave comfort food but have limited time. Using Pillsbury Grands! Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits as dumplings is a clever shortcut, saving you from making dough from scratch while still delivering soft, pillowy dumplings that soak up the savory broth. I've made this recipe several times, and I find that sautéing the onions and celery until nicely softened really enhances the depth of flavor in the broth. The cream of chicken soup adds just the right amount of creaminess, while the poultry seasoning and garlic salt provide a well-rounded seasoning profile without being overpowering. One tip I discovered is to cut the biscuits into smaller pieces and slightly flatten them before dropping them into the simmering broth. This helps ensure they cook evenly and become perfectly fluffy rather than doughy. Also, adding the biscuit pieces one at a time keeps them from sticking together, which can be tricky otherwise. Using canned chunky chicken breast keeps the preparation incredibly fast while still providing hearty protein. If you prefer fresh chicken, precooked shredded chicken breast works well too. Just keep the broth flavorful with the right balance of herbs and seasoning. This meal pairs wonderfully with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete dinner. Plus, the leftovers reheat well, making it a great option for meal prep. Overall, this recipe is a wonderful blend of convenience and homemade comfort, ideal for anyone wanting a satisfying, easy-to-make chicken and dumplings dish at home.
