My morning as a Special Education teacher 🫶🏽👩🏽‍🏫

As a Special Education teacher, each morning presents unique challenges and rewards. The responsibility of nurturing students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) is profound, and it requires a deep commitment to their well-being and learning. This role is particularly fulfilling as I navigate my journey towards becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), which will empower me to advocate even more effectively for these children. One of my favorite routines involves ensuring my students feel valued and loved when they enter the classroom. The motto, 'In this classroom, you matter,' serves as a daily reminder of our mission. I start each day with an uplifting environment, encouraging my students to recognize their worth and create a safe space for them to express themselves. My mornings also involve practical preparations for the day ahead. From setting up lessons to organizing resources, multitasking is inevitable in the teacher lifestyle. I recently implemented fun learning materials that resonate with the students' needs and capture their interests. This engagement is vital for effective learning and helps bridge gaps. Surprisingly, as I juggle my teaching responsibilities and coursework, I find joy in the little things, like enjoying a warm cup of coffee crafted at home before heading to school. Creating a balance between studying for my social work degree and teaching is complex yet rewarding. I believe this experience will make me a more effective advocate for my students in the long run, as it believes that every student deserves to receive quality education and emotional support.
