Obesity is a disease

I’m deeply disturbed by the removal of Decoding GLP-1: A Guide for Friends and Family of Those On The Pen from Amazon. This book offered insights & support for those navigating life with GLP-1 medications. Why was it taken down without a valid reason?? This feels like another blow to an already marginalized community. One that has constantly been fighting to be seen and heard. We deserve access to knowledge & tools that empower us to live healthier lives. Censorship like this will NOT be tolerated, and we will NOT be silenced. #AmazonSilencesObesity #OnThePen

... Read moreObesity is increasingly recognized as a complex disease, stemming from various environmental, genetic, and behavioral factors. It’s crucial to highlight that many people living with obesity face stigma and discrimination, which can hinder their access to necessary health resources and support systems. The recent removal of books and guides related to GLP-1 medications further exacerbates these issues, raising concerns about accessibility and censorship in healthcare. GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as semaglutide and liraglutide, have emerged as important tools in managing obesity, but the lack of available literature and guidance can leave individuals feeling unsupported. Access to comprehensive information not only helps in symptom management but also empowers individuals by providing them with knowledge about their treatment options. Such resources are essential in encouraging open discussions about weight, health, and the societal factors influencing these discussions. Moreover, social media campaigns, like #AmazonSilencesObesity, reflect the community's call for awareness and support, emphasizing the need for platforms to consider the implications of removing such content. Advocacy for clearer communication and support regarding obesity management can play a vital role in reducing stigma and promoting healthier lifestyles. Ultimately, recognizing obesity as a disease necessitates a supportive approach that ensures access to necessary resources and fosters an inclusive environment for those affected.
