I understand Mama Ruby a little more now cus chileā¦
This book overall was a great introduction to Mama Ruby earlier years involving her upbringing and her friendship with Othella throughout the years. Once I reached the middle of the book some of the newly introduced characters felt irrelevant, almost like filler which made the book feel more prolonged than needed. I do however understand Mama Ruby a little more now and why she is the way she is. Life experiences shaped her into the woman she was, however some of those āexperiencesā were predicaments that she placed herself in (unnecessarily) time after time again. Mama Ruby seemed to fear abandonment and being lonely so she was willing to submit to nearly anything from those she loved in order to keep them close. After finishing this book I now feel as if Othella and Ruby were both equally jealous of each other. Ruby was jealous of the male attention Othella had and Othella was jealous that Ruby started to find joy in the things Othella INTRODUCED her to. They both had two different upbringings and seemed to view life differently. Also if given the chance I believe Othella would have slept with Roy in a heart beatttttt lmao.

Is this a series or is there a book before this seems like a good read
