my ✨unaesthetic✨home

my house is a wreck - YES!

I have an 18-month-old. I work full time, I am in college, and I am a wife. my life is hectic. some days my house looks super aesthetic but most it looks like this. my husband built our house for us over the past year and we just moved in a few months ago. it isn’t perfect but it is ours 🤍 i love seeing everyone’s super put together homes but i also LOVE seeing a mom showing off their house with toys everywhere and an unmade bed. it’s feels loved to me 🥰

... Read moreIt’s easy to scroll through social media and feel like everyone else has a perfectly curated, minimalist home. I used to, too! But as a mom navigating the beautiful chaos of an 18-month-old, a full-time job, and college studies, I’ve learned to truly embrace what I call my "unaesthetic home." And honestly, it’s one of the most freeing things I’ve ever done. My home isn't just a place; it's a testament to life being lived fully. Take our bedroom, for instance. You know that perfectly made bed you see in magazines? Mine often looks like a cozy nest, complete with an unmade bed and blankets slightly askew from a morning cuddle session. And I wouldn't have it any other way. It's a reminder of precious moments, not a failure in tidiness. Then there’s the living room – the heart of our daily adventures. While I dream of a serene, clutter-free space, the reality is a vibrant explosion of color, typically featuring a couch covered in blankets, a rug, and numerous children's toys scattered on the floor. From building blocks to miniature cars, these aren't just toys; they're the building blocks of my son’s imagination, and seeing them reminds me of his joy. Yes, I trip over them sometimes, but it's a small price to pay for a house full of laughter. The kitchen, oh, the kitchen! This is where dreams of organized pantries meet the reality of a busy family. While I have one small corner with a lamp, a couple of cookbooks, and a wooden box that attempts to be "aesthetic," the rest tells a different story. You'll often find the counter and sink area bustling with activity: dishes drying, a few dirty dishes in the sink waiting for their turn, and our trusty Instant Pot ready for its next meal. It’s not always spotless, but it's always cooking up something, whether it's dinner or memories. It truly is a "lived-in home," and I wouldn't trade the warmth for a sterile showpiece. And let's talk about the bathroom – another area where reality often clashes with expectation! While some online memes might playfully show the stark differences in how "girls" vs. "boys" keep their bathrooms, in a family home like mine, it’s less about gender and more about shared life. Our bathroom counter with two sinks might have an illuminated mirror, but it's also home to a collection of various toiletries, toothbrushes, and sometimes, a stray bath toy. It's a busy hub, and honestly, who has time for a spotless counter every single day when there's a tiny human to wrangle? The ultimate truth? Our white bathtub is often filled with colorful children's toys, ready for the next splash adventure. It might not be a spa, but it’s a place of fun and function. Embracing the unaesthetic isn't about giving up on tidiness entirely; it's about shifting your perspective. It's about recognizing that a truly loved home is lived in, not just looked at. It’s about prioritizing connection and comfort over perfection. So, if your home looks more like a vibrant, slightly chaotic canvas of daily life than a Pinterest board, know that you’re not alone. There's beauty in the mess, joy in the lived-in spaces, and immense love in every corner. It's our real life, and it's perfectly imperfect.

Here is my real kitchen. On social media, we see these gorgeous kitchens all the time, while most of us do not have that. Kitchens are expensive!! We’ve been in this house for 6 years today and still haven’t done anything to the kitchen because it’s hard! #underconsumptioncore #underconsumpt

can we normalize homes looking lived in? i do my best to keep up on the mess but sometimes life just gets in the way. and that’s okay. if i could spend all day everyday cleaning then that wouldn’t reflect a very full life. mess is evidence of life. i think we could all use this reminder ! give your
