Are Skincare Dupes Actually Dupes? 👀
💸 Are skincare “dupes” actually dupes?
I’ve been thinking about how loosely we use the word DUPE in the beauty world.
Two bottles look alike? 👉🏾 “DUPE!”
Same color cream? 👉🏾 “DUPE!”
They both contain hyaluronic acid? 👉🏾 “DUPE!”
But…that’s not enough for me. 👀
When I’m comparing skincare, I want to know whether the products actually give me a similar EXPERIENCE and PERFORMANCE.
🧪 Are the key ingredients similar?
💧 Is the texture comparable?
✨ Do they leave the same finish?
🧴 Do they layer similarly?
👀 Do they produce similar results?
💰 And does the cheaper option actually give me comparable performance for less?
Packaging can make two products LOOK like dupes without the formulas being remotely comparable.
And here’s another thing:
A less expensive product doesn’t HAVE to be an exact formula dupe to be worth buying.
If my skin gets the same hydration, comfort or results from the $15 option that I was looking for from the $60 option…that matters to me. 🙌🏾
Sometimes we’re so busy looking for a “dupe” that we overlook something that’s simply a GREAT affordable alternative.
💬 What matters most to you when calling something a dupe: ingredients, texture, results or price?
