It's a delicate balance between keeping the heat in and letting moisture out. Water management is another big one during winter snowstorms. With everything freezing up, having a reliable way to get fresh water is paramount. Melting snow is often the most straightforward solution, but it takes time and fuel. I always make sure to have plenty of propane or other heating sources. And for my furry companions, keeping them warm is just as important. I always pack their dog outfits and make sure they have a cozy spot to snuggle up in. Seeing them happy and warm makes all the extra effort worthwhile. Staying connected is also a modern necessity, even when you're off-grid. Starlink has been amazing for me to have internet right in the middle of nowhere. It's a game-changer for staying in touch, working, and even just streaming a show after a long day of adventuring. It allows for a sense of normalcy and safety, knowing I can reach out if needed. While I grew up in the desert, and my dogs possibly never saw snow until they joined me on the road, watching them experience it, even if just for a little dusting, is a joy. They're usually done with it pretty quickly, but those moments are precious. Living this life means constantly adapting, learning, and finding joy in the small victories, like a warm cup of coffee after a chilly morning or successfully keeping the van toasty during a blizzard. It’s a life of constant problem-solving, but the freedom and unique experiences are truly unmatched.
