Trimming my hair at home✂️

... Read moreIt's amazing how much you can save and how convenient it is to take hair matters into your own hands sometimes! I totally get the urge to give my hair a little spruce-up without booking a salon appointment. For anyone wondering how to cut split ends at home or needing a quick bang trim, I’ve picked up a few tricks over time that might help you too. Remember, this is just what works for me, but hopefully, my experiences can guide you! First off, let’s talk about those annoying split ends. They're the bane of long hair, making it look dull and unhealthy. My personal approach is what I call the 'search and destroy' method. I usually start with clean, dry hair. I take small sections, about an inch wide, and gently twist them. As you twist, those damaged, frizzy ends often pop out. That's your cue! With a pair of sharp scissors – yes, ideally hair shears, but if you're like me and working with what you have, just ensure they're very sharp and clean – I carefully snip just the tips of those rogue strands. It’s a slow process, but so satisfying, and it really helps to maintain the health of my hair between professional cuts. You're literally trimming my hair at home to keep it looking its best. Now, for the ever-popular bang trim. I've found the 'twist method' to be incredibly beginner-friendly and great for achieving a soft, natural look. Here’s how I do it: I make sure my bangs are dry and styled as I usually wear them. Then, I gather the section of my bangs that I want to trim, usually the central part. I twist this section tightly, once or twice, depending on thickness, and pull it down in front of my face. The key is to twist it in the direction you want the hair to lay. Holding the twisted section taut, I carefully snip up into the ends, cutting only a very small amount at a time. The twisting creates a natural guide, and cutting upwards (point cutting) prevents a blunt, harsh line. Once I untwist, I check the length. Remember, you can always cut more, but you can't put it back! This method is a fantastic way to handle a bang trim at home without much fuss. For general hair trimming, especially if you're just looking to maintain length or clean up the ends, patience is your best friend. I always work on clean, dry hair because that’s how I see its true length and how it naturally falls. Sectioning your hair, even if it's just dividing it down the middle and bringing sections forward over your shoulders, makes a huge difference. Use a fine-tooth comb to ensure each section is smooth and free of tangles before you cut. I typically look at my existing layers or length and aim to just dust off the very ends, holding the hair between my fingers as a guide. Again, tiny snips are the way to go. If you're attempting anything more complex, like adding layers, it's probably best to watch a few more detailed tutorials or consider a professional. But for a simple maintenance trim, these steps are my go-to. Having the right tools, even if they’re not professional salon shears, makes a difference. Make sure whatever scissors you use are dedicated solely to hair, if possible, and super sharp. A good comb, some hair clips to section, and a clear mirror (or even two for the back!) are invaluable. Trimming my hair at home has become a regular part of my beauty routine, and with a little practice and confidence, it can be yours too!
